Safety and Environment

Safety First

Pike Industries is committed to the safety and wellness of our fellow employees and to the protection of our natural environment. To those ends, Pike will continually strive, through policy and practice, to meet the highest standards.

The safety and wellness of our employees is the highest priority in our daily operations. Pike’s corporate goal is to reduce the number of accidents and to make our workplaces and job sites safer and healthier for our employees, customers, and the traveling public.

We also recognize that we are stewards of our environment. Only through proper and positive actions can we preserve the potential for a quality life for future generations. We take this environmental commitment very seriously and believe that it is not only “good business, but also good for business".

In facing the issues of safety, health, and the environment, Pike Industries will meet, and whenever possible, exceed the requirements established by safety, health, and environmental regulations. We will consistently strive for excellence in our efforts to be proactive in meeting established standards.

To these ends, Pike will continually train its employees. We will conduct internal safety, health, and environmental inspections to measure the results of this training and ensure our compliance with existing regulations.

Accidents and emergencies can arise at any time and from many causes. The victims are always people and the environment. While no organization is immune from these misfortunes, advance planning for emergencies and employee training are the only ways to minimize our potential losses.

Our commitment with the Environment

At Pike Industries we go to great lengths to keep our employees, customers, subcontractors, vendors, the general public, and our natural environment safe. To ensure their safety, we maintain a full-time staff of Environmental, Health and Safety professionals who are focused on promoting and maintaining our culture of “zero incidents”.

Job-site health and safety inspections are conducted on a regular basis. Our employees also receive progressive safety training in Risk Assessment, so they are able to recognize and eliminate hazardous conditions. The company provides employees with the proper tools and equipment to perform their jobs safely. Industrial hygiene testing is conducted at our operations to ensure that employees are not overexposed to hazardous environments such as noise, chemicals, fumes, dust, etc. Pike is frequently recognized by industry organizations for outstanding safety performance, and we are considered to be the leader in safety by our industry peers.

Along with our commitment to keeping our employees, customers, subcontractors, and the public safe, Pike takes proactive steps to ensure that our operations are carried out in an environmentally friendly manner to minimize impact on the environment. Approximately 17% of our Hot Mix Asphalt feedstock consists of recycled materials.

We have worked jointly with educational institutions and state agencies to develop environmentally friendly products that help with stormwater management and other products that reduce energy consumption at the point of manufacture. Our aggregate washing facilities have constructed water recycling systems that allow us to re-use almost 100% of our water needs. We routinely utilize control devices at our facilities and construction projects to eliminate sedimentation from entering surface water bodies.

In addition, Pike has donated hundreds of acres of property to municipalities and land trusts in the interest of conserving precious land resources. Pike has been recognized by Industry Organizations and Regulatory Agencies for our efforts to protect the environment and preserve our natural resources.
